The Samen Hier Student Community is a community of students and refugee youth based in The Hague with the aim of mutual cultural exchange and social contact. We founded the community in the Spring semester of 2021 in collaboration with The Hague based NGO, Justice and Peace.
The second edition of the program is then run in Spring 2022. The project is organized around smaller pods, groups of a few students and refugees each, who meet weekly for various activities such as making dinner, studying, or taking a day trip. We also host community-building events for the whole cohort to come together.
Through Samen Hier Student Community, we aim to flip the script on one-way integration for refugees and promote a more dynamic model of inclusion. We want to bring awareness to migration and human rights in the context of The Hague and highlight that students can play a role in building inclusive societies.
